FSAC is now seeking proposals for its annual conference. We welcome proposals on topics related to the Congress theme, or on any other film or media studies topic.
FSAC is collaborating this year with ARTHEMIS, the Advanced Research Team on History and Epistemology of Moving Image Study, based at the Congress host institution, Concordia University. From June 4 to June 7 ARTHEMIS will host, at Concordia, an International Workshop on the history and epistemology of film studies. An open call for two panels, to be held on June 4 during the annual FSAC conference, will be available to FSAC members. FSAC members will also be invited to attend the ARTHEMIS Workshop until June 7 (the list of confirmed international guest speakers includes : Tom Gunning, D. N. Rodowick, Francesco Casetti, François Albera, Dominique Chateau, Alison Griffiths, Malte Hagener, etc.).

Please submit your proposal as an attachment (.doc or .rtf format) to conference2010@filmstudies.ca.
We invite proposals for individual presentations, pre-constituted panels, workshops or round-tables, and for screenings, exhibitions and other events.

Individual Presentation Proposals must include:

Abstract of no more than 250 words describing the presentation

Panel Proposals must include:

Chair’s name, rank/status, institutional affiliation and email address

Title of panel

Abstract of no more than 250 words describing the topic of the panel

List of presenters (ideally no more than 3-4 presenters) including name, rank/status, institutional affiliation and email address

Abstracts of no more than 250 words describing individual presentations
Submit as attachment by email, with subject heading “Panel Proposal” to conference2010@filmstudies.ca
Workshop and Roundtable Proposals must include:

Chair’s name, rank/status, institutional affiliation and email address

Title of workshop or roundtable

Abstract of no more than 250 words, describing the theme or issue to be considered in the workshop or round-table

List of participants including name, rank/status, institutional affiliation, and a brief description of their contribution

Proposals for film or video screenings, exhibitions, retrospective, or other form of event will also be considered, and must include:

Chair’s(s’)/Organiser’s(s’) name(s), rank/status, institutional affiliation and email address

Title of and description of event

List of participants (if any), and/or descriptions of film(s), video(s), object(s) to be displayed or exhibited

Panel, Workshop, Round-Table Constitution Process:
If you have an idea for a panel, workshop or round-table, and would like to solicit participants from among the broader FSAC membership, you may send the title, and a brief description of the topic or theme, to president@filmstudies.ca with the subject heading “Panel/Workshop/Roundtable Topic”. Please include your name, rank/status, institutional affiliation and an email address. The information will be posted on the FSAC website, and regular reminders will be sent to members to consult the list of proposed topics.
Prospective participants will then contact you directly, and you may select from among those proposals those that you would like to include in your session. Once the panel, workshop or round-table has been constituted, you may then submit the entire proposal to the general Call for Proposals, by the deadline of January 30.

Presentations may be in either English or French. Individual presentations are to be no longer than 20 minutes (including clips). The length of presentations on panels, workshops, and/or round-tables may vary depending on the specific constitution of the session. All proposals will be adjudicated by the Programming Committee.
Audio-Visual Needs
All conference presentation rooms will have video/data projectors, screens, Windows-based computers, basic sound systems, and connections for laptop computers. If you will need a DVD player, or VCR, or if you have any other audio-visual need, please describe them and submit your request to conference2010@filmstudies.ca with the subject heading “A-V Request”
