The Department of Cinema and Media Arts, in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design at York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for an open-rank (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor) professorial stream tenure-track or tenured appointment in Film Production to commence July 1, 2021. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

An MA or MFA in Film with a substantial record of ongoing professional experience in Film or Digital Production and/or Filmmaking or a related field is required, with a demonstrated record of excellence or promise of excellence in creative practice/research and teaching. Applicants should have a clearly articulated program of creative or research practice and have specialized technical knowledge and experience from among the following areas: cinematography, lighting, digital workflow, editing, digital effects, and compositing, with significant experience in teaching or potential to teach visual storytelling, and pre-visualization. A practical knowledge of sound recording, sound editing, mixing and colour correction/grading is desirable. The successful candidate should be prepared to lead in-class technical workshops, to teach studio and elective courses and to develop new curriculum in the area of digital filmmaking from image capture to digital workflow through to exhibition/distribution master.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in outstanding, innovative, and, as appropriate, externally funded creative practice or research at the highest level. We acknowledge that within higher education in Canada, traditional or conventional academic pathways can reinforce biases in the filling of faculty posts. Candidates must provide evidence of creative or research excellence or promise of creative or research excellence of a recognized international calibre as demonstrated in: the submitted research/professional practice statement; a record of film and/or digital production, significant screenings with major broadcasters, festival presentations, awards and accolades, and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.
The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision, as well as undergraduate teaching, and the successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching will be provided through: the submitted teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning; teaching evaluations where available; and strong letters of reference.
